Mr. Gabus had a varied life before becoming Iowa’s largest Ford dealer. He was a teacher, band instructor, painter and appliance dealer. In September 1953 in Holdrege, Nebraska Charles Gabus founded Charles Gabus Ford. In August of 1967 he and his family uprooted to Urbandale and opened Charles Gabus Ford in West Des Moines. In 1970 Charles Gabus Ford was moved to its current location on Merle Hay Rd. Sitting on approximately 15 acres, it houses over 1000 new and used vehicles and approximately 100,000 square feet for its part service and body shop. Mr. Gabus passed away in October 2008 at the age of 90. Mr. Gabus’s accomplishments, service and dedication to the customer with Charles Gabus Ford lives on to this day. It is still family owned and operated right here in Iowa and is still Iowa’s #1 Ford dealer. Our management staff has almost 300 year’s automotive experience.
